I couldn't believe my eyes, we were finally there, Mount Ruapehu.
As I step outside of the midnight night blue car, snow flakes fall around me. I give a shiver. I slowly shuffle through the snow piled around the parking spot to where my parents are sliding on the winter snow pants and snow jackets. I also take in the awkward and ridiculous sight of my sister desperately trying to get on her ski boots as she breaks down in freezing cold tears. Then I breathe in a gush of cold, fresh air that feels raw against my throat. Then I quickly shove on my ski pants and boots, we get all our stuff together and then we start trudging up the snow covered path to the Wellington tramping hut.
Now at the hut, we peel off our snow boots, jackets and pants. Then we swiftly put them in the drying room, then we go through the heavy fire door into the warm main lodge.
Just as happy hour at the hut started, the main lodge filled with noise, so mum said that we should go into our bunk room to sort out our sleeping situation. We heaved open the huge fire door and headed for our bunk room.
"It's not fair," I yell, " My sister gets to sleep with you every night just because she's scared of the dark and every thing else." " Okay," says mum calmly," you can sleep with me three of the nights and your sister can sleep with me for four of them." Knowing that was the best I was going to get, I nodded, opened the creaking heavy door, and walked out of the room.
After a good night sleep my family slowly staggers out of bed. After we privately got changed we went out into the main lodge for a breakfast of hot steaming porridge and good gooey deviled eggs.
Once our lodge chores were done we done we headed to the lifts to start skiing. After doing the rock garden a few times we we went up the sky waka to the upper mountain. There we enjoyed the rest of our week on the upper mountain.
I hope you enjoyed my quick write blog post.
